Estate Gift Establishes New Endowment to Support St. Mary Church of Ireland

The Community Foundation recently received a gift from the estate of Eileen “LaVerne” Schitter to establish the St. Mary Church of Ireland, IN, Melvin A. Schitter and Eileen LaVerne Schitter Cemetery Endowment.

Melvin and LaVerne were long-time, active members of St. Mary Church. LaVerne sang in the church choir, served on many committees, and received the Brute Award and the Mother Teresa service award. Melvin served on the cemetery committee for over 30 years. Melvin passed in 2007, and LaVerne in 2020.

By making a bequest through their will, Melvin and LaVerne continue giving to their beloved parish beyond their lifetime.

Each year, St. Mary Church of Ireland will receive a grant for the perpetual care and maintenance of the cemetery in memory of Melvin and LaVerne.
