A Lasting Legacy: The Habig Family's Commitment to the Arts
Anthony “Tony” Habig envisioned a stronger, more vibrant community enriched by the power of collective charitable giving. This vision was instrumental in sparking a movement that led to the creation of a county-wide public foundation, now known as the Dubois County Community Foundation. As a founding board member, Tony played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life, helping to establish the Community Foundation in 1996.
Tony’s wife, Audrey, was a talented actor with a career including film, television and theater. Together, they brought a vibrant passion for the arts to the community which included Audrey serving on the board of directors for Jasper Community Arts.
In 1996, the couple established the Anthony P. and Audrey Habig Endowment to support youth programs at Jasper Community Arts, reflecting their commitment to fostering artistic talent in their community and giving local youth access to impactful art programming.
The Habigs then set up a charitable remainder trust to fund their endowment, naming the Community Foundation as the beneficiary. This long-term strategy allowed them to receive tax benefits during their lifetime while ensuring that, upon their passing, the trust’s remaining assets would go to the cause they cared about most.
Today, the Habigs' legacy lives on and, thanks to their thoughtful planning, their philanthropy continues beyond their lifetimes. Each year, Jasper Community Arts receives a generous grant from the Anthony P. and Audrey Habig Endowment, ensuring that their passion for the arts lives on forever.
