Dubois County, May 2, 2016: The 2017 Dubois County Lilly Endowment Community Scholar will be named in December 2016. Previous scholarship recipients were identified in March of the year they graduated from high school.
The advanced timeline is the result of a statewide evaluation of the program conducted by the Lilly Endowment in 2015. The evaluation process indicated that identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year would give more time for them to decide which college or university to attend. The change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.
To comply with the statewide change, the Dubois County Community Foundation is adjusting its timeline for choosing a local scholar.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship online application for 2017 graduates will be available on August 1, 2016. The application will close on October 1, 2016. The application is accessed through the Dubois County Community Foundation website at www.dccommunityfoundation.org.
“Students applying for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship are required to take the SAT and/or ACT and report those scores on the application,” said Nona Baker, the Foundation’s Director of Programs. “Potential applicants need to be prepared to meet that expectation. If they have not yet taken the SAT or ACT, or plan to test again, they should immediately review testing dates and registration deadlines,” Baker said.
Information for the SAT can be obtained at www.collegeboard.org and for the ACT at www.ACT.org.
Deadlines for all other donor-established scholarships administered through the Community Foundation will remain unchanged with the online application available January 1, 2017 through March 1, 2017. For questions, contact the Foundation at 812.482.5295.
