Recent events held in Huntingburg, Indiana, commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the film “A League of Their Own” raised $10,000 to benefit the League Stadium Endowment. Committee members presented the Dubois County Community Foundation with a check during the Dubois County Bombers game on Monday, July 3, 2017.
The three-day celebration kicked off on June 15, with a near-capacity crowd gathered for a showing of the film at The Gaslight. The following evening, hundreds attended the 1940’s-themed cocktail social held at the Huntingburg Event Center featuring actors Bitty Schram and Justin Scheller. The weekend concluded with 2,350 fans in attendance during an afternoon filled with activities, guest appearances, and a Dubois County Bombers game at League Stadium.
“Certainly having ‘A League of Their Own’ stars Bitty Schram (Evelyn Gardner), Justin Scheller (Stilwell Gardner), and Ryan Olsen (Dollbody Kid) at League Stadium added to the excitement, capturing the 2,350 fans that filled the stadium to capacity for Saturday’s Bomber game against Hopkinsville,” according to Mike Uebelhor, managing partner of the Dubois County Bombers. “Columbia Pictures left Huntingburg and Dubois County a million-dollar asset that both the Bombers and City Parks Department intend not only to preserve, but also enhance the facility that draws thousands of baseball fans and tour groups throughout the Midwest each year. Proceeds from the three events will go a long way to benefit the stadium’s annual improvements.”
The League Stadium Endowment is designated for the maintenance, upkeep, and improvements to Huntingburg’s League Stadium. Contributions may be made to the League Stadium Endowment online through the Dubois County Community Foundation, or by calling (812) 482-5295.
