Foundation Secures Lilly Endowment $500,00 Matching Grant

$1 Million Campaign a Success

Dubois County, October 8, 2015:   Local donors have helped the Community Foundation successfully raise more than $1 million for Dubois County charities.

Through Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) VI, an initiative of Lilly Endowment Inc., donors have given more $500,000 to fully capture an eligible $500,000 in matching monies.

The objective of the initiative is to raise unrestricted assets for community foundations across Indiana. Dubois County was eligible for $500,000 based on population size.

“The Endowment challenged our community with a great opportunity and we knew we had to fully capitalize on this match,” said Pat Miller, Community Foundation Board President. “Our donors helped us achieve this goal with tremendous support beyond what we even imagined,” he said.

Thirty-six individuals, families and businesses contributed to the $1 million, including a major gift of $125,000 from Inwood Office Furniture Foundation.  German American, Springs Valley Bank & Trust Co., Bob Luegers Motors, Kunkel Insurance Agency and several individuals and families also contributed. Along with these supporters, the Foundation saw 100% participation from its staff and board of directors. A total of ten new endowments were established from the matching funds.

“Lilly Endowment allowed until March of 2016 to raise these funds, but we fully exhausted the matching monies months ahead of our timeline,” said Brad Ward, Community Foundation CEO.  “The community stepped up and responded in a very big way.”

Dubois County charities will see an immediate increase in available funding in 2016 thanks to this successful million-dollar campaign for unrestricted funds.  Unrestricted funds are pooled into The Fund for Dubois County, an endowment that provides funding for nonprofits to apply for throughout the year.

“These funds provide the most flexibility required to respond to our nonprofits requests,” said Miller said. “Raising unrestricted funds is instrumental to the ever-changing needs of our community,” he said.
