Orlan “Mockey” Lett Scholarship Endowment
Education, more specifically obtaining a degree of higher education, was important to Orlan “Mockey” Lett. But because of the depression and obligations to his family, Mr. Lett, a 1929 graduate of Huntingburg High School, was unable to accept his award of a full scholarship to Purdue University. Instead, Lett began assisting in the main office of Uhl Pottery in Huntingburg. Lett worked his way up through the company and taught his children the importance of learning, but unfortunately was unable to personally achieve his dream of higher education. In 2009, the Orlan “Mockey” Lett Scholarship Endowment was established by Lett’s children in order to commemorate his love for education. This annual scholarship aids a non-traditional or currently enrolled college student residing in the Southwest School Corporation in continuation of his or her degree. It is through this lasting legacy that his family has been able to assist local individuals to pursue the path that Orlan “Mockey” Lett felt to be most important.
